New boss, what to do about recommendations?

Question:

I have gotten two letters of recommendation. One from a previous supervisor and another from the CEO of my company because I worked directly for him once my boss left the firm. I work for a small firm of about 40 people.

Just last month, I got a new boss. I would rather use the letters of recommendation from my previous supervisor and the CEO because they know me better and can better speak to my strengths and I will not have had much time with my current boss by the time that I apply.

Is it okay to use the letter from my previous boss and the CEO (he stated at the time of the letter that I was reporting directly to him) instead of my new boss of just a few months?

I think that should be fine. Some schools will ask you to make sure one of your recommendations is from a current supervisor, but I think that is close enough that you should feel comfortable. You could always explain your predicament in an optional essay if you are really worried about it.
