well, i just took the GMAT last friday, and came out pretty pleased with a 760 (49 Q, 44 V). My studying consisted of only 7 days of work (around 8 hrs a day), with a practice test each day.

The only thing I'm curious about is how much better my score would be if i got a 50 on the quant. On all the practice tests (including my diagnostic GMATPrep), I had been recieving a 50 on quant, so I focused mainly on studing verbal. In seeing that my quant score actually went down, i can't help but be slightly dissapointed. So does anyone know what a 50 Q / 44 V would equate to? and would retaking be worth it at all?

Hey DMB - I don't know the answer to your main question re the scoring scale.

But my personal view on your question regarding retaking the test: I would be disappointed too if I had consistently scored 50. But at the same time ... there is zero value for MBA admissions if you take it again but score higher than 760. It could backfire and put a dent in your track record if you actually come in at less than 760.

That being said ... if you do it for reasons other than Bschool (some sort of personal satisfaction) .. then that's another issue.

Did you take GMAT to apply to a business school or just to see how high you can score ? Because if it was for Bschool - you are fine, otherwise I would retake it and see what will be your score if you get 50 or 51 from quant.

No school would ever have a thing against 760.I am sure u too know this.
If you want 50-51 to satisfy urself,go for it !

It would be a 770.

Go to https://www.800score.com/score2.php and find it.

The 800score is no longer accurate for this year. It seems like the score is off by 10, thus 49/44 on the 800score would have scored 770, but you only scored 760. Same with 50/44 (770 according to 800score).

I scored 51/44 and score 770 instead of the 780 calculated by 800score. So your Q score will need to jump 2 points to make a difference at that level.

Well I was taking it with the intentions of going to businesss school, so I know there really is no benefit of getting slightly higher than a 760. I guess it was just more of a personal prideissue, but in seeing that it wouldn't raise my overall score at all, I guess there really is no point. well, thanks for the input guys!
