Still not quite sure why B is sufficient. Is it because A and B have to have different signs?

They tell you that
lal + lbl > la+bl
With a=2 and b=3 the inequality is wrong.
With a=-2 and b=-3 the inequality is wrong.
The only possibility is that a and b have opposite signs so as to put down la+bl
