Worried and scared -Please help

Hi,

I am really concerned with CR as i get only minority of them correct .I do Veritas questions and end up making all choices wrong.The questions seem very tough to me.

Please help me with the this as i am very scared and worried.Sad


I have taken magoosh GMAT tutorial and seems like i am doing well there.But i am not getting the confidence.

Hi Saurav,

I'm not sure if you've tried the OG questions, and also the verbal review..If not, consider going through these to get a hang of what line of reasoning is to be used.
Try those and see how you fare..
Also look at the answers that are wrong and why they are wrong..This helped me in the beginning stages of CR prep.
Not sure if you have the MGMAT CR guide, but that might help too!

I am not that familiar with the Magoosh GMAT program. Did the program provide key insights into specific details of how CR questions work? Other than Magoosh, what have you done to learn about CR?

There are some basics the understanding of which can make a big difference in one's CR success and I a wondering whether you have learned about them.

Also, how long have you been working on this? GMAT critical reasoning questions can seem daunting at first, and then as time goes on and one learns to see the logic and details of them, they no longer seem as mysterious or difficult.

Hey Saurav,

In my opinion, the key to CR is recognizing the TYPE of CR question you're looking at, and adjusting your approach accordingly. There's a finite number of CR concepts tested:

"¢ CR: Bolded Statement
"¢ CR: Assumption
"¢ CR: Complete the Passage
"¢ CR: Argument Evaluation
"¢ CR: Flaw
"¢ CR: Must Be True
"¢ CR: Cause and Effect
"¢ CR: Method of Reasoning
"¢ CR: Inference
"¢ CR: Resolve the Paradox
"¢ CR: Strengthen
"¢ CR: Weaken

If you can recognize the TYPE of question, then you understand the expectations the problem has for you. Regardless, your strategy for all CR should be some form of the following:

Step 1 - Identify the Question-Type

Step 2 - Break Down the Information

Step 3 - Write down a Prediction

Step 4 - Read ABCDE, Use Symbols to Record your First Impression ("+", "-" , or "?")

Step 5 - Narrow it Down to the Final Two, Eliminate all "-" and Re-evaluate any "?" Choices

Step 6 - Select the Choice that Does the Job of the Question-Type

If you have not done so already, I recommend you utilize the following books:

Do ONE question-type at a time. To start, I suggest you focus on Weaken, Strengthen, and Assumption, since they are the most commonly tested.
