What is the best path to top Bschool? Boutique IB analyst or

I am currently on crossroads in my career after 2 years of unemployment due to a back injury . I am currently doing my CFA and I have a job offer form a top boutique IB in the country as a IB analyst where I would be exposed to book building , presentations etc ... basically all the M&A activities .
and I have an offer for equity research form a top Rating agency in the world .

I realize that both of these can lead to my main goal in life (i.e, to have a fund of my own ) and both will provide me with the skills needed . and i wont be applying for a Bschool before 2017(cause of the gap in my resume, i need some good workex before i apply) as i am doing my CFA and planning on picking up FRM on the way .
In the distant future like 10-15yrs down the line . I want to have a hedgefund of my own . and i realize that going to a Bschool would be a good start as I would make a good network .

Hey dude,
Well, actually either could be good, and I'd be wary of any advice that doesn't take into consideration where you would work, what exactly you would be doing (I mean the day-to-day detail). Basically from an MBA perspective either can work - so I'd just say choose the job that is most appealing in terms of responsibilities, mobility, location, salary and benefits like you normally would without worrying about the MBA, because either could work,

Thank you for your reply . I am basically an investor and trader at heart . I'm leaning towards the investment banking job although its in a boutique firm , as it will teach me how to raise capital and i'll have a very strong network .
plus the IB job is middle office job its all about creating pitch books and after a year or so , we also would be exposed to the pitching activity . The equity job is basically outsourced work ... which i think is a big disadvantage .
hopefully the network and experience would be useful when and if i open a fund of my own .

As you flesh out your work experience over the next year or so, also think about other involvement activities you want to take part in. Get involved, lead an initiative, and make an impact! Thank you Bhavik for replying . Yes , you are right , I need to be part of some cause and get some extracurriculars in my resume . as of now I'm a supporter at a well known site for depressed, suicidal people . but i dont think that will translate to much . I'm looking out for a ngo which I actually believe in .

That's a wonderful cause - if there's a way to get more involved in that particular activity, that'd be a great place to start. But whatever you pick, just do what makes sense for you and you can put a story around it.

Yeah dude,
Then just follow your path that you want to forge. And just do well in it. The difference from an MBA perspective is not so colossal. And if you are happy, you will simply do better, while bringing yourself to your long-term goals.

Hi There,

I feel the best route for you to take would be the route which will get you to realize your future goals faster. A business school will then give you the required knowledge and the networks to proceed further in that direction. Both look like good opportunities but the IB opportunity could open up more doors for you.
