How to decide B schools?

On the GMAT,we are given an option to list 5 b schools to which we would like our scores sent. How do i choose these b schools. My appointment is on the 30th March, 2015 and my score is in the range of 690-720.

Abhijit,

A score in the 690-720 range shouldn't preclude any school from consideration, so long as the rest of your application is strong. My advice: pick the 5 schools that you're most excited about. You can always send out more score reports later if you need to.

Have you done any research yet into the specific Schools/Programs that you might want to apply to? Do you have a sense of how many Schools you're going to apply to?

Hi Abhijit K,

There are a variety of factors that go into selecting the Schools that you'll apply to. Here are some things to think about:

1) Is there a particular company that you want to work for or industry that you want to work in? Certain degrees are more appropriate than others if you have a specific career goal.
2) What do you want your MBA to do for you?
3) Do you want to go to School full-time or part-time?
4) Are you willing to relocate? Are you comfortable with working through a program that is primarily online?
5) Are you going to be applying for scholarships?
Etc.

It's okay if you don't have answers to any of these questions just yet. You do get to send your GMAT score to 5 Schools for *free* (it's part of the $250 test fee), but you have to choose the Schools the day of your Test, otherwise it will cost $28 per School to send your report out later.

Hi There,

Since you have time in hand for your GMAT I would suggest you to first introspect and set your goals. Is there any particular specialization/industry/sector you are particularly interested in? You might want to look at the schools accordingly. Curriculum/class profile/location/placements/faculty etc are some pointers you should look at. You need to do your own research on schools before you select the schools at the time of your GMAT.

Do I have to just choose the b schools or I also need to select the programmed I would like to take up in those schools?

Hi Abhijit K,

The program gives you a search function, which allows you to search by School name or location. You don't have to pick the specific Program, just the name of the School.

You really should do your own research, but here's a listing that came up after a quick Google search. You'll have to look into the various details for each program and decide whether you want to go through the effort to apply.

Boston College
Ohio State
Cal Davis
Notre Dame etc
