Statue of Liberty - Q45 1000 SC

by vivek.kapoor83 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:09 pm
45. According to his own account, Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty, modeled the face of the statue like his mother’s and the body like his wife’s.
(A) modeled the face of the statue like his mother’s and the body like his wife’s
(B) modeled the face of the statue after that of his mother and the body after that of his wife
(C) modeled the face of the statue like his mother and the body like his wife
(D) made the face of the statue after his mother and the body after his wife
(E) made the face of the statue look like his mother and the body look like his wife

IMO it should be E...but acc to 1000 SC ans it is B ...Howcm? I am not sure.

Read the option (E) again. There is SVA error in option (E). Face is singular, so the verb should be LOOKS instead of LOOK. Also body is singular, so the verb should be again LOOKS instead of LOOK.

Hope this helps....

Guys don't be emotional. 8)

Check the option (C) again.

(C) modeled the face of the statue like his mother and the body like his wife

Comparing non-related things.

Face needs to be compared with Mother's Face, not Mother.
Same case with Body.

Hope this helps...

B is the right answer.

I started with looking the modified 'modeled' .. modifying the status of liberty .... and then went to to see how things are compared.

Face needs to be compared with the face of mom .. not with mom herself
Body need to be compare with the body of wife .. not with wife herself.

Model after is the right idiom.

B is the correct one.
