Took GRE and Scored a 308

Hello everyone,

A month ago, I asked for expert's advice in preparing for GRE. After multiple unsuccessful attempts on GMAT (510, 530, 530), I managed to score a total of 308 on GRE. I got a 155 on Verbal and a 153 on Quant. I bet that I made a lot of silly mistakes in Quant. My practice scores were around 159. I would like to get advice on whether 308 is a decent score to apply. My other components of the application process are at Par. The two universities that I am applying to doesn't have an average GRE score. what's this score equivalent to in comparison to a GMAT?

In addition, I would like to report my best score. Should I just report my GRE as it is higher than my GMAT Score (530)?

Hi chawlakushi,

Most Business Schools include information about the average GMAT scores (and the "middle 80%) for each incoming class on their respective websites, so I would suspect that they'd include GRE information as well. If you can't find that information listed, then you should contact the Admissions Office for each school and ask - part of their jobs is to answer applicant's questions. At the very least, you might be able to establish some type of relationship with an Admissions Officer at each of those Schools - which could work to your advantage when you apply.

The average GRE scores for the Quant and Verbal are both in the low-150s (around 152 for each, give or take), so your GRE scores are just slightly above average. Since the average GMAT score is right around 540-550, the equivalent GMAT score for your GRE score is likely right around 570 (give or take).

This GRE performance is rather similar to your GMAT performance, so it appears that you're approaching each Test in the same general way. If you choose to retest (of have to retest), then you might consider investing in some new study resources that will teach you a new way to approach the Test (whichever one you retake).
