I wrote my GMAT on Tuesday and just received my official scores (very impressed with the quick turnaround time).
Final score: 740 with 44 Verbal and 48 Quant to put me in the 97th percentile; plus a 5.0 AWA score.
I was giddy when I got out of the exam as I was aiming for 700.
Study wise, I studied for 6 weeks for the exam using only material that was available for free on the internet including the free MGMAT and GMAT Prep exams. I didn't buy any books and the only time I have seen the Official Guide is in a book shop.
I don't mean to say that the GMAT guides aren't useful. As pretty much anyone else here will attest, going through the OG is one of the best things you can do. What I will say is that, especially for those of you who are good at self study and who don't have a lot of spare cash floating around, it is possible to achieve a 700+ GMAT score without breaking the bank.
There is a lot of excellent material available for free out there if you just take the time to look (and I recommend starting with the resources right here on beatthegmat).
In closing, good luck to everyone who's GMAT is still forthcoming and well done to the people who've already completed theirs. And thank you BTG for all the resources and community help. It was and is much appreciated.
