Guys ,

Pls help me out with he below problem with reason why right and why wrong


Kleine-Levin syndrome, a rare neurological disorder primarily affecting adolescents, is characterized by cyclical episodes of extreme lethargy, heightened irritability, and appearing confused.

B)they appear confused
C)may be confused
D)apparent confusion

The answer is D. This is a parallelism question and only D uses the noun form of 'confusion' in the list of nouns.

Hi j_shreyans,

The correct answer to this Sentence Correction problem is D. The question is testing parallelism. If we simplify the sentence, we get the following:

Kleine-Levin syndrome is characterized by X (cyclical episodes of extreme lethargy, heightened irritability), AND Y (one of the answers).

Essentially the format of the sentence is "The syndrome is characterized by X AND Y." We need to find Y in the answers, and it must be in correct parallel format.

A)appearing confused - INCORRECT

B)they appear confused - INCORRECT

C)may be confused - INCORRECT

D)apparent confusion - CORRECT, yay!

E)had been confused - INCORRECT
