need advice

gave gmat yesterday score:710 (q 50 v 34)

experience: AWA (hadnt tried before)- wasnt able to do it in 30 mins(still wondering).
: Verbal- last question timed out, hadnt marked then

RC: i guess i got 2 longs and 1 short. except the short one, i didnt understand a bit of other passages had to guess almost all those questions. i did the same thing with RCs in gmat prep.
when i see an RC i'm like oh shit and i rarely been able to comprehend difficult language and detailed RCs.Got one of biology (hates the subject), oh my god i didnt know what to do after reading it.


Gmat prep: same thing with RCs prep1 :700(q50 v34) prep2:710:(q50 v35)
Re preps had same RCs so i already knew the answers btw score
1:770(q50 v 44) 2:770(q51 v 42)

Quant:didnt do anything apart from OG-13

SITUATION: I have only one year experience and low undergrad GPA-6.3/10 (school-IIT Delhi)
I am free nowadays...i am not good at concentrating and get easily diverted.
Thing is cant figure out if i should work on improving RCs and if i do how i should start?

A 710/Q50 is a fantastic score, so a retest might not be necessary. What schools are you planning to apply to?

yo rich...i do plan to take admission consultant advice.
the reason i posted here is i know my shortcoming(RC- a major mind boggler for me) and schools i intend to apply have R1 deadlines in october.

Thing is i wanna know can i overcome this shortcoming soon and give ma exam by the end of september.
And one thing how do we increase concentration effectively and avoid distractions especially during the exam.After some time my head starts buzzing during long time exams like this one.

Maybe its a broad question but u know its just been a day ...and i guess m overthinking...afterall retake seems to take big courage and commitment to devote time.

Sukkhi,

A 750 will not cover for the lack of work experience. A GMAT score and work experience are both different parts of the puzzle and measure seperate facets of the person.

With a 710 you have demonstrated your caliber academically (and also by being from the IIT, which is a big feeder school to any good MBA in the US). The work-ex however measures your impact at work/your leadership potential/how you work with others etc.

First figure out what they measure with the work experience bit and then figure out how can you demonstrate those qualitites with other life experiences of yours- or can you, and if you cant will it be more sense to work.

As pointed out, a consultant would help you more, but don't blindly follow keeo your eyes n ears open.

The problem that you're describing (getting tired, having trouble concentrating) happens to many Test Takers during the Verbal section of the Test. It's actually more of a physical problem than a mental one. By the time you start the Verbal section, you've been at the Testing Center for 3 hours, so you'll naturally be a bit tired.

So, what do YOU do to combat that "tired feeling?" For some people, it's a snack during the break. For others, it's yoga/breathing/posture. There's also the issue of whether you're taking notes (or not) when you do RC. Attempting any question without taking some kind of notes is usually a bad idea. To answer your question - "could you overcome this issue and improve in a month's time?" - the answer is "yes." Whether you work to actually make the necessary changes to how you approach the overall exam or not is up to you.

btw i havn't decided of retake but i guess i'll work on rc and then after 20-25 days take gmat prep (preferably new) and then depending on the results, i'll decide.

i'm thinking of starting with lsat sets to practice rc (although they are longer i guess it'd be better to kill my fear with rc).hows that? am i right?

strategy i followed before: wrote function of each para in few words
too much details and humanity passages f*** up with my mind.

any suggestions would be great. where to start? strategy change?

I guess with better score sort of 750 i have better chance to counter the negatives.
I have only a month to do that(Improve in RCs mainly). should i go for it?

I must add that 710 is really fantastic score and you should reconsider retaking GMAT. Since you don't have much experience so you might consider applying for Young leadership program however in case you want to use the score for later then it's certainly possible as I hope you already know that GMAT is valid for 5 years.

Since I know the mettle of IIT Delhi therefore I would not restrict my comment and mention that in case you feel you have not been able to deliver 100% in test then you should not be wasting time and retake GMAT in a gap of 1 month.

If an IITian can't get a score like 750 then no-one can.
