"One" always refers to the subject being talked about.
So, here the 'one' refers to the discovered fault.

As you know, a pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. There are many, many pronouns in the English language, and they all do the same thing.

There are three types of pronouns: subject pronouns (for example, he); object pronouns (him); and possessive pronouns (his). "One" in the question is an object pronoun.

Here, "one" refers to the object of the sentence, the noun "fault." Rather than repeat the noun, the second part of the sentence replaces the noun with the pronoun "one."
