680 - 710 - Good enough?

Hello there,

Keeping it short here. Scored a 680 last year with an abysmal IR score of 1 (i just clicked through the questions).
This time around, went through the drill scored the 710 with an IR score of 8 ( )

I just want to know though, is my score good enough. I currently have three years of work experience with a healthcare consultancy. I am planning on applying next year, so I will 4 years as I apply and 5 years by the time I go. I am an Engineer from India with a distinction. I am also currently pursuing a masters in English Lit through distance learning courses.

I am aiming at the top 15 schools, how do my chances look? Please let me know!

A 710 is a great performance (right around the 90th percentile overall). What were your Scaled Scores for the Quant and Verbal sections on each of your GMAT scores?

The simple/short answer is that a 710 puts you in position to apply to any US Business School. Certain programs (Finanace) put a much higher premium on your Quant Scaled Score though, so a high Quant Scaled Score would be beneficial in certain circumstances.

There's no way to truly assess your "chances" based on this limited information. Academically, I can tell you that the aspects of your application that you listed make you a solid candidate, but you have to do your part to stand out from the other applicants and really "sell yourself" to each School. Admissions Experts would likely be able to offer some additional perspective, but you'll have to include more information that what's listed here.

As far as the GMAT is concerned, you've done a great job. Make sure to put the proper time and energy into the other parts of your application and you'll have a solid chance at any of the Top 15.

I have always loved your replies Rich. The scaled scores were Q48, V38 and IR 8 (I know I am stating the IR again but I am really proud of it! :p )

I will give a more elaborate debrief later. I am not targeting finance but rather marketing. So let's see how things play out!

Karthic - I would be interested in knowing about your distance learning course experience. How do you like it ? What have your learnt ? How much time have you invested ?

In the Top 15 school you have greater chances in school such as CMU Tepper, Texas Austin etc.
