SP Jain GMBA or ESCP MEB

Hi,

I am an Indian software engineer currently working overseas (Permanent job). My current job is also my first job and I have almost 33 months of work experience. I got offer letter from ESCP MEB and SP Jain's GMBA program and need some help to choose the best one for me.

Following is the pros-cons comparison that I have prepared till now. Please help me with suggestions to add more points.

ESCP MEB:-

Pros
1.Chance to study and live in London and Paris.
2.Better starting package (~41,500 Euros) as compared to SP Jain.
3.Option to take an extra semester in Berlin campus to earn MSc degree.

Cons
1.I don't speak French that is a significant problem in French market and to get work permit for UK is really tough for non EU people these days.
2.The degree is MBM and not MBA.
3.Class average work ex is 2 years, less than my work ex., so I won't learn too much from my peers.
4.In long run, I wish to come back to India. I am not sure about the value of ESCP MEB degree in India.

MEB is a general management study program so after its completion I may in any domain from banks to consultancy. Not sure if this is a pro or a con.

SP Jains GMBA:-

Pros
1.I assume SP Jain is a brand name in India and is also listed in top 100 MBAs in FT.
2.Degree is proper MBA and I opted for marketing as I wanted to learn more in this domain.
3.Average work ex of class is 5 years, much more than my work ex, so I will learn a lot from my peers.

Cons
1.It is listed in FT top MBAs and I saw many positive feedback for this college but still the average salary of class is low (33K USD). I don't understand the reason.
2.Chance to study and live in Singapore, Sydney and Dubai but these places are not London and Paris.

Hi Pratek,

SP Jain would be a much better choice when compared with ESCP. As i have mentioned in my previous posts, Europe is not a very promising destination anymore until & unless you go to a school like LBS, INSEAD, HEC & IMD or if you only wish to study in Europe. I mean to say that even though the quality of education in Europe is at par with the best in the world, the present economic scenario coupled with the incompetence of most European schools in helping international students find jobs in Europe creates a big drag, which is becoming increasingly difficult to overcome. French, Spanish & Belgian schools are the worst hit, English schools are slightly better but with the post study work permit been scraped now, it is as gloomy there too. Just to clarify, it is uncertain & very difficult but certainly not impossible. Also understand that despite featuring in most global top 100 MBA rankings, most of these 2nd tier European business schools have limited reputation with Asian & American employers, which makes it even more difficult to find a well paid job in these regions.

SP Jain on the other hand seems to enjoy a premium reputation in India, as my Indian colleagues & friends have told me, and is steadily building a strong international reputation with international campuses and tie-ups with global schools. Finding a job will certainly be easier with the school and with its growing international reputation.

But, I wanted to know whether there is any major difference between GMBA and EMBA courses at SP Jain School of global management apart from the work experience required? What is the difference in terms of placements?

Both are different. GMBA is a tri city model course. But EMBA is not. It'll be conducted only at one place like either you study MBA in Dubai or MBA in Singapore or MBA in Sydney. No, tri city model for this.

SP Jain is a 21st century school and I have heard good things about it. Its Forbes ranking among the top MBA schools is 19th. So, which ever course you choose you can be assured of placements.

Executive MBA allows students to do the course without leaving their jobs. So, it's mostly joined by employees who want to boost their career. I know a couple of their alumnus. Their alumni list boasts of working professionals who have seen a significant jump in their career in terms of salaries, designations and opportunities.

It all depends on how you want to go about it; whether you don't have time and want to finish it in a year or you want to work part-time on local company projects along with studying.
