Should I reschedule my GMAT?

by Jazzman » Sun Jun 08, 2014 2:20 am
Hey Guys

I have my GMAT test scheduled on the 25th of JUNE. The glitch is that I am aiming 650 and I am still currently seating on 600.As I have taken my first two GMAT preps ever in last two days and scored 590(44,27) and 610 (48,27) on each of them.
Timing issues in first one and then silly mistakes in second.

Should I reschedule? or its worth a shot after working on some different strategies?

I was aiming to submit my application to business school here before the end of round 2,which is 27th of june.

Any suggestion please?

GMAT PREP gives you a score that is always very close (+10 or -10) to the actual probable score in GMAT attempt.

Miracles are rarely seen in GMAT therefore, I feel, Rescheduling is the best option as Verbal is the only section that looks a hinderance for you. You should try to do a little better in Verbal which should not be very difficult if you try harder and learn and apply some techniques that experts suggest.

Quant section doesn't offer you much scope of improvement however Verbal could be proved to be a saviour but 15 days is too less for such a huge required improvement.

All the Best!!!

Hi Jazzman,

While I agree that you have a greater opportunity to "pick up" points in the Verbal section, a GMAT practice CAT is only as accurate/realistic as you make it.

The GMATPrep CATS are certainly the most realistic of all the CATs on the market, since these exams are populated with questions that once appeared on the Official GMAT and the software is the same as that which runs the Official GMAT. Your score could fluctuate greatly based on a number of factors though: if you took the entire CAT (or if you skipped sections), the environment you took the test in, the time of day & day of week, the amount of sleep you got the night before, if you had a pacing or endurance problem, the number of silly mistakes you made and if you can "fix" them before taking your next exam, if you take the same CAT a second or third time, etc.

As such, a full review of these CATs is advisable, so that you can identify your "weak" areas and work on them. You're not far from a 650, but to raise your score, you'll have to make the necessary adjustments to how you approach this Test.

Hi Jazzman,
What types of questions did you miss on the verbal section of your tests ? That is, was critical reasoning a problem or was it more sentence correction or reading comp. ? Generally, the sentence correction section can be fixed faster that the CR and RC parts. If the SC section was the problem get manhattan gmat's SC book and start going through it as soon as possible. And then go through it again.

Cheers!
Dan
