How many classes in accounting should I take?

Hi. I am writing is to inform you that I have a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts. I know that many accounting firms and government agencies do not accept a degree which is NOT in accounting. I want to know how many accounting classes do I need to take without completing a second baccalaureate degree in accounting in order to be accepted by accounting firms or government agencies for employment as an accountant?

As this is a forum on MBA admissions, I do not know the answer to your question. My guess is there is some variance on what is required, but it would not surprise me if both the accounting firms and government agencies require a bachelor's degree.

Hi, I am not an expert in this field, but I do know that the amount of courses required depends on the state.

For example, at the Big 4 I work at, for an offer in the California office, a minor in accounting would suffice, but the New York office would only look at majors in accounting. (This is just the experience of one person, but it may be the rule).

To start, I would look at the course requirements to meet eligibility for a CPA. UCLA Extension's Award in Accounting follows the curriculum necessary to sit for the CPA, and is certified by the governing body. It might be helpful to look at their course listing a very least.
