My current and previous supervisors have been my consistent choices for letters of recommendation, However as IMD requires 3 letters I thought of adding my first supervisor, who I am confident will be able to put in a good letter (considering i reported to her for 2 years, and we managed a tougher time in the industry, understands me better, etc.) and it would be from my time in a different company and sector.

The sad part is this was about 8-9 years ago. Will this be considered too much in the past?

As I dont handle clients as such, my only other choice would be a supervisor (4-5 yrs ago, current company) but i am not confident of the letter.

Any suggestions?
Is 8-9 yrs back too old?

Hi Step2,

Is there perhaps some other activity you're a part of that could provide a letter of rec? A 3rd recommendation is the perfect place to put in a community involvement perspective. Is there anything along those lines? Perhaps an NGO you're really involved in or a start up you help on the side or a nonprofit you consult for?

Or since you have already included 2 supervisors, you could always use a peer/colleague that works closely with you. You don't need to necessarily use a 3rd supervisor. Going 8-9 years back is a bit far.

Also Bhavik's idea is a great one.
