Hi,

I am in the middle of a confusion regarding whether its worth taking the risk to get a recommendation from a very senior person.

The situation is that I have to choose between my immedidate team lead and Country Manager for requesting a letter of recommendation. I have worked with both, so they know me well and I am sure will give me a positive recommendation. Letter from Country head will have an extra weight because he is much senior. But the problem is that he is a very busy person and I am not sure he will have enough time to do justice with the recommendation.

With my team lead, I can discuss in more detail and its more certain that he can give enough time so that the recommendation is more in line with my essays. But my team lead is much lower in hierarachy / age / experience as the Country Manager. So will, arguably, have a lower impact factor.

Is it worth the risk of getting a letter "written in hurry" from a country manager instead of a well written one from a team lead ? What do you think ?

Thanks in advance
Regards,

I would go with the guy who has more time on his hands. The senior guy's poor recommendation will not be viewed any more positively just because he is in a senior position.

The content of the letter is more important than the rank of the person who wrote it. The letter should be written by someone who can dedicate the time to writing a quality recommendation. The person should know you well and be able to write about your specific achievements.
