Any advice please on whether my profile is suitable? GMAT690

I've just completed my 2nd GMAT (690 quant-42, Verbal-42). Slightly disappointing scores though they were an improvement from my 1st attempt (650 Q-39, V-40) taken about a month ago. I am sure my quant is definitely rusty as I've scored mostly As and 2Bs for my math-related modules in a global-top-40 college (GPA about 3.5) though I'm not sure how the Adcom officers would view such a result. I've worked in the government for the the past 7 years. Key achievements during my tenure include securing multi-hundred million investments into my country and establishing and running my agency's first official presence in the middle east. I've had significant stints in other parts of Asia as well so I've a relatively good understanding of business in the Middle East and certain Asian countries. I'm aiming for a spot in London Business School's MBA programme with Oxford and Insead as my other choices. Any advice would be appreciated. My thanks in advance!

Your profile is strong. Most schools will put less weight on the GMAT for people who have been out of school for more than a couple of years. Also, your score is clearly within the range of those accepted by your target schools. Do not try to retake it.

Your higher experience level should make you a good candidate for the European schools. Their shorter programs are generally aimed at individuals with more experience who are looking to enhance their skills rather than build a foundation.

I like your work experience a lot. Be sure to emphasize in your applications your background in government and your record of running a program. Those should set you apart from much of your competition. You might also consider programs with government service components such as the Harvard Business School/Kennedy School joint degree.

Just an update Tani. I chose the Oxford MBA and never regretted it. After the MBA, I was admitted to a blue-chip conglomerate's MBA leadership programme. So, in summary, after Oxford, I got a similar job to those MBA candidates attending the traditional 2 year MBA course, but I only had a year's worth of opportunity cost. Oh, and the degree costs only a fraction of those charged for 2 year programmes.
