Score

I scored 200 in first gmat CAT of mba.com, without studying anything as I need to review my concepts again.

Second, after I study all manhattan 9 strategy guides what should be my approach should I go and write CAT'S to see my performance or should I study official guides before writing the real thing.

HI gmat1981,

Did you complete the entire CAT or did you run out of time and leave some questions unanswered?

Time was adequate but I lack grasp of concepts and had no idea how to answer.

I'm currently studying Manhattan 9 guides.

After I'm done with Manhattan 9 guides what should be my strategy ?.

Should I solve Manhattan Exam 1, Gmat Premier 1, Mba.com Exam 1 before jumping to Official Guides ?.

Thanks

Hi gmat1981,

Based on your initial practice CAT score, I think that you should enroll in a complete GMAT Course and follow the timeline/strategy that is offered with that Course. I also think that you'll need at least 3 months to properly prepare (although you might need more time than that). You should research the various options, use whatever free resources are offered by the various GMAT Prep Companies and then pick the Course the best matches your personality and budget.

A lot of my friends who took courses through Oxford/Vertitas, Manhattan they told me just read all guides and enrolling in course will not help.

Thanks.

Also I want to tell you that my target was to get 730 but my initial score of 200 on MBA.com without studying any material shows I need to learn content.

I'm preparing Manhattan and OG's and then I'll solve some CAT's.

I've about 70 days remaining before my official exam.

Should I reduce my target from 730 to 650.

I want to apply to York, University, Master of finance and also University of Toronto, Master of finance.

I'm at home 5 days a week full time student and working 2 days only for this next 70 days.

Thanks

Hi gmat1981,

It's important to realize that an approach that works for some people might not work for everyone. With 70 days of prep time, you have less time than I would normally recommend for this process. That doesn't necessarily mean that you need to change your goal, but it does mean that you're going to have to do a lot of work in a shorter period of time. I personally have no idea what you're capable of doing. With the details that you've provided, my assessment remains the same: I think that 3 months of study time (at the minimum) and a GMAT Course with a fully-planned schedule are what you need to achieve your goal.
