Hi Jon,
I was wondering if you could help evaluate my profile. I am aiming to apply for B-schools for 2015 and wanted to get an idea what my prospects are.
Personal: 24 years old female living in US. I have also lived in China and can speak Mandarin.
GMAT: 690 (V39, Q46, AWA 5.5) taken in 2011. I am planning on re-taking the GMAT this year for a better score.
Education: B.S. in Supply Chain Management from a state university - 3.95 GPA.
2 scholarships, 3 fellowships, TA experience, graduated with honors
Work Experience: 2.5 years with Accenture in consulting. Over the course of this period, I worked in the following areas:
- Analytics and enterprise reporting IT implementation for large resources and products company
- Inventory, invoicing/payment, procurement, and point-of-sale IT implementation for large US retailer
- R&D application development for large pharmaceutical company
- Extensive experience working with offshore team in India
- Extensive client-facing work including leading design and test workshops
- Management experience: managed testing with 5 US team members and 5 offshore testers
- Performed in top 20% of my peer group for both years and promoted from analyst to consultant
Extracurricular:
- Worked with account development strategy on client with leadership
- Avid reader in psychology, art history, and women studies
- Paints (oils) and draws (in traditional and digital media)
Rationale for getting an MBA: I interested in moving from the IT to the "business" side. I'm specifically interested in supply chain/logistics for healthcare companies. I feel that getting an MBA will accelerate my transition from the IT-focus to business operations. My long-term interest is to be able to help under-privileged women and children gain more accessibility to healthcare, but I haven't fully fleshed out a plan to get there.
My biggest weakness is extracurriculars and I don't have specifics in this area to highlight. As a traveling consultant, I work 50-60 hours a week and I've found it extremely difficult to find the time and energy to commit to extracurriculars.
Since time is my biggest constraint, I want to be targeted with improving my Bschool prospects. Could you give me some advice on:
- Roughly what category of Bschools do I have a chance with?
- What I can do to round out my profile?
- What GMAT score I should aim for?
Thanks in advance for your help!
