I just started working on my Masters plan about 2 weeks back. I want to have my Exec. Masters(considering I would complete around 5 years in the industry by the time I apply) in Finance but need more perspective on whether to go for MFin or MBA(Fin). Any guidance is most welcome.

I also got to know that most of the best MBA schools have started accepting GRE scores as well. I have a 3-year old decent score of 1340. If someone could point me towards some reachable good schools, I would be much obliged.

A little about my profile :

1. GMAT(if needed, I am targeting) : 730
2. Work Ex : No finance domain exp. Software development work ex. of 4.5 years with Accenture
3. Undergrad : ECE, 7.57/10
4. 12th : 82.40/100
5. 10th : 95/100

Please let me know if I need to give any more details for a better conclusion.

Work Exp. as I wrote in my post is in Software Development (technologies Java/J2EE). Basic domain knowledge of Telecom and Retail (because of the Clients).

Couple of technical Certifications in IBM Technologies and Java.

Undergrad major, as mentioned in first post, is in ECE(Electronics and Communications)

Breaking into Finance will be tough, given many people pursuing these Masters have relevant experience. Having sad that you have options
- Try applying to Financial Engineering Masters and go for a quantitative role. This will be easy as you have GRE score and your experience will be valued. You must have tolerance for programming. Slowly you can move to more mainstream Finance role.
- Get a 750 on GMAT and apply to schools in Top 10-20 range. Here you will have to comPete with other Finance enthusiasts.
I am yet to know of any Masters in Finance that people have used to Switch careers(Oxford Said MFE is an exception to this rule, you have to score 750 as their average GMAT is quite high).

With that much work experience I would focus on the MBA. MSF programs (at least in the US) tend to be for more junior applicants. If you got into MIT/Princeton that might be a different story. You could also look at MFE programs (as mentioned above). They would compliment your work experience and education pretty well.
