Well your GMAT score is good for five years, your TOELF for only two, so figure that into your schedule when you set dates. You will also need at least 2-3 years of experience before applying.

Thank you for your kind reply.

Is 2-3 years of experience is must? What is the relevance of TOEFL exam in GMAT? Also when will the courses begin in universities?

Also can you briefly explain the process after getting a GMAT score??

Hi Divya,

Congrats on finishing your GMAT. First of all, are you happy with your score and does it meet the requirements for the schools you wish to attend?

There is much to do in terms of preparing your application, not to mention a lot of research you must conduct in terms of which schools you want to apply to and which ones are the right fit for you... then figuring out if you qualify (each school has different requirements for work experience - some require no previous work experience, some require a minimum of 3 for example), if you meet their requirements, and if so, what are the admissions deadlines. (To answer your other question, most US schools start in September but some schools, including some international schools such as INSEAD also offer January start dates.)

At Fortuna Admissions (the company I work for) we wrote a great four-part series for the Economist that answers your questions where the advice is coming from our team of experts from Wharton, INSEAD, Harvard Business School, London Business School, Chicago Booth, IE Business School, Kellogg and UC Berkeley Haas. I would also like to know, is TOEFL or IELTS exam score is necessary before applying to Business Schools?

Actually I am planning to write GMAT exam for the first time on March last week or April first week, 2014. Based on my future score, Am i able to start my MBA studies in this academic year?

Or To pursue my studies in this academic year, when should i write GMAT exam?

Kindly help me on this.

Hi Divya,

It depends... you will have to look at the schools requirements that you are interested in as some will require TOEFL or IELTS and some may not (most do if English is not your first language).

As for starting your academics this year, it is still possible to start in Sept. as some schools still have Round 3 application deadlines left(each school depends so you have to do your research and look at all of the application deadlines of each school you are interested in). In many cases Round 3 deadlines are fast approaching and can be in March or April. However Round 3 is very competitive, particularly for US schools, so unless you think you have a unique and exceptional profile, with a high gmat score, I would wait until the next round 1s.

Best of luck,

Thank you for your kind reply.
What I understood is I have to wait some more time ? I should clear the exam first and need to prepare for further.

Thank you for your kind advice on this.
