HBS 2 + 2 Applicant Profile

by JIbanez27 » Thu Jan 23, 2014 12:40 am
Hey everyone!

My name is Jerome and I'm going to be applying to HBS' 2 + 2 program sometime this year (I'm aiming for a Q4 application because I feel like my profile will be in an incredibly solid form at that date). In any case, I hope someone can comment on my overall profile. I have an incredibly low GPA which I'm sure will burden my application but I've done some things that I hope will help "negate" my poor GPA. I have NOT yet taken the GMAT.

Education

School: De La Salle University (# 1 Computer Science department in the country)
GPA (As of writing): 2.2/4.0
Reason for low GPA: There are lots of professors in my university that give out 4.0 like it's candy. I was grade conscious for the first two years or so but I realized that going to college is not a race of how high your grades are but is a rather a place to learn. I decided to not pursue easy professors just for a good grade and actually gamble on challenging ones, hence my low GPA (And I honestly don't regret it). I'm currently spearheading a massive change in our curriculum and it is something that I am proud of.

Written an independent research paper revolving around using Twitter as platform to predict attendance in social and political demonstrations.

Job Experience

*Co-Founder, MetroPlate (A food delivery platform aimed at people looking for healthy food options at night. Second Place, Startup Weekend Manila. Listed by TechInAsia as one of the most promising startups in 2014 at # 4)
*Business Apprentice, Openovate Labs (Openovate Labs is a software development company. Closed a deal with a world renowned spanish film maker for an international film school in manila worth half a million pesos. Closed a deal with one of the co-founders of Hotelzon.com worth a million pesos)
*Sales Executive, Twitmusic (Closed on a number of labels for a number oflocal artists).

Extra-Curricular Activities (Most relevant to least relevant)

*Sports Writer for FullCourtFresh (Feb 2013 to present)
*Sports Writer for GoArchers (Feb 2012 to present)
*Volunteer at UKEAS (United Kingdom Education Advisory Service) Philippines (August 2012 to Present)
*Assistant vice president for publications at La Salle Computer Society (May 2013 to Present)

Hey dude,
I don't want to put too much of a damper on your dram, but with a 2.2 GPA getting in to 2+2 is basically impossible. They simply don't take people with GPAs under 3 (and very few under 3.5) They have the best of everyone in the world applying, so it's not really reasonable, I don't think.

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news (please don't kill the messenger!!!)
