Profile Evaluation - Older Student

by econguy88 » Tue Dec 24, 2013 4:18 pm
I would greatly appreciate any advice. I have the problem of taking way too long to get my bachelor's degree completed and really had to wait until online education became more popular.

Profile:

Age: 33 (White Male)

Work Experience: 13+ years in software development. Worked for a mortgage company that went out of business (3 years), Owned 5 person consulting company for 5 years, Casino Games company 2+ years

GPA: 3.25 GPA from Oregon State University ( BS in Economics / Minor in Business ), Plenty of Bs, a few Cs and a few As. About 13 years of college transcripts (majored in Comp Sci, Biology, finally Economics)

GMAT: 710

Goal: Investment Banking and or Computational Finance (I have a passion for finance)

I'm mainly looking at good schools that have online or part time programs because it would be difficult to take a couple of years off.

What are my chances?

Target Schools:
Carnegie Mellon Tepper
UNC Kenan-Flagler
University of Florida
University of Washington

Long Shots...
NYU Stern Part Time
University of Virginia Darden

I do not think NYU Stern Part-Time is a long shot. I think you are competitive for those schools (although Darden might be more difficult), but you might wish to pursue Computational Finance rather than Investment Banking as your goal in your applications, due to your age.

Also, consider the EMBA programs of Columbia and Wharton. Part-time and Executive MBA programs are normally less selective than full-time MBA programs.

Best of luck,

Hi - Just wanted to let you know that Carnegie Mellon has an excellent Computational Finance program. I have a friend I can connect you with if you are interested.
