Why "worried"

Hi everyone,

I don't understand why the answer of the following question is C. I think "Worried" should be "worring" because the "administration" worried about. Thus, when we use reduced form, the sentence should be "The current administration, worring about .., has formed ..."

The current administration, being worried over some foreign trade barriers being removed and our exports failing to increase as a result of deep cuts in the value of the dollar, has formed a group to study ways to sharpen our competitiveness.

In the above question, administration is worried and has formed the group.....

A. being worried over some foreign trade barriers being removed and our exports failing - wrong usage

B. worrying over some foreign trade barriers being removed, also over the failure of our exports

[Ing after comma is used in cause effect cases] plus usage of being is wrong here.

C. worried about the removal of some foreign trade barriers and the failure of our exports
correct

Read it like this:-
The current administration worried about the removal of some foreign trade barriers
The current administration worried about the failure of our exports
The current administration has formed a group to study ways to sharpen our competitiveness.

Parallel structure is there

D. in that they were worried about the removal of some foreign trade barriers and also about the failure of our exports

usage of about is redundant,
in that is sounding akward

E. because of its worry concerning the removal of some foreign trade barriers, also concerning the failure of our export...

One peculiarity of English is that we can use present participles and past participles to modify nouns. Sometimes they mean different things, and sometimes they don't.

Different meanings:
Bored with algebra, the student fell asleep. The student is the one who is bored.
Boring the class with algebra, the teacher lost everyone's attention. The teacher is the one being boring.

(Almost) same meaning:
Worried about money, she canceled her vacation.
Worrying about money, she canceled her vacation.

The only real difference between these two is that the second one suggests that she canceled the vacation while doing the worrying.

So, whenever there is a difference in modifiers, ask yourself - is there a difference in meaning?
