I would consider myself to be an 'unconventional' candidate as I am currently studying in the UK and would like to apply to the HBS 2+2 programme. Also, I have resided in four countries including the UK. Given my position and current academic timeline, my questions are geared towards general issues and are of an 'aspirational' nature so kindly bear with me.
Background: 2nd-year Civil engineering student on a 3-year Bachelors degree at a reputable UK University (top 5 for my course). I plan to do a Masters after my 3 years and would apply to 2+2 while doing my Masters, hence fulfilling the HBS 2+2 criteria.
Questions:
1) The HBS 2+2 application (as well as the normal MBA app) has a section to upload 'high school information'. Will my not uploading this be disadvantageous to my application (I believe it's optional)?
2) In the UK, the first year generally does not count towards the GPA/class of degree. I didn't do very well in my first year but this doesn't affect my final degree class at all and I'm confident of graduating with a first class degree (anything above 70% overall is a first class). Will my first-year transcript hurt me nonetheless when I submit my official transcript (shows all 3 years I believe)? How else can I differentiate myself academically?
3) I don't have internships but am in the process of applying for summer internships. I shall be applying mostly to consulting firms as I wish to work in management or strategy consulting. While I understand that applicants with STEM backgrounds are welcomed and even sought after for the 2+2 programme, if I choose to pursue consulting as a career goal, does this mean I'm in the same category as other aspiring consultants and not considered an 'engineer'?
4) Should I include my high school results and achievements in my resume? I had to re-take my last year at high school (or rather, my GCE A-levels) due to certain reasons and though I held 3 leadership positions in high school (Editor-in-Chief, Class Chairperson, Debate Captain), I am apprehensive about how my high school academic profile could hurt my application. What should I do? To what extent does high school information affect one's HBS 2+2 application- does HBS even care about it once the applicant holds a bachelors degree and is pursuing a masters (my situation when I plan to apply)? Would a gap in my resume raise more questions?
Thanks for reading the verbose and awkwardly-phrased questions and I look forward to your replies.
