Hi all ,

I was wondering whats would be the difference in the profile if a person worked as a analyst in a pe or an analyst in investment bank ? would a Bschool view these as equally or almost the smae? or is a person with PE experience given a bit more importance than an investment banking analyst ?
I am actually in a verge of choosing among one of these and was wondering which would be better . As the pre mba analysts in both the cases would have almost the same job i,e. analyzing M&A activities .

Regards

Hey there,

There's no real right answer to this because you could have a great experience at either or a terrible experience at either. What makes a bschool like your experience is the impact and scope and growth you had there.

So instead of asking what's the best for bschool apps, what's best for you? Where will you find the culture, experiences, and fit that make the most sense for you? Because if those things like up, then your story and application will be stronger for it.

I know that wasn't a direct answer but it's the answer I think should guide your decision.

Let us know which you choose!

Hmmmm. although it's true that both are fantastic. PE jobs (big firm) are considered the rarer birds, and will probably offer you better MBA opportunities.

Hey there,

Wow - you are just flush with job offers! That's fantastic - good job!

John does have a good point - PE is a little bit of a rarer bird so in that regard, that's something to consider. If you find yourself choosing between the investment bank and the mid market bank, I'd lean towards the investment bank assuming the brand name of the investment bank is strong (e.g. bulge).
