Waitlisted at Sloan... Need advice

by MBAreapplicant84 » Thu Nov 21, 2013 3:37 pm
Hi Jon,

I am a huge fan of the feedback that you give and really respect your thoughts and opinions. You have previously reviewed my profile, https://www.beatthegmat.com/profile-revi ... tml#677532. I was recently notified that I was waitlist at Sloan. I have not yet interviewed, but I was curious to get your opinion on what I could do in the meantime to strengthen my profile. What kind of updates do you think I should provide? Also, from my profile, are there any areas that you think I should address that may have held me back from initially being accepted? Would it be worth retaking the GMAT (my previous high score was a 710 (47Q/40V))?

Here are a few updates since you last reviewed my profile:
-I will be promoted in January at work
-I have taken on several cost savings projects
-My manager was promoted and took on an expanded role. Thus, I have informally stepped into her role and now am leading a team of four (although they are not officially my direct reports).
-I have organized three community events to raise awareness about childhood sexual abuse. I have spoken at all three and have had former members of the child GMAT crimes unit, the DA's office, and other public officials speak as well. We have had the mayors and city council members of several cities attend and support our events.

Thanks,
MBAreapplicant84

Hey dude,
First of all (this may sound weird) but congrats on the waitlist! I know it's not an in, but it's not a no either. And if Sloan is telling you maybe, then it's a good sign.

- Retaking the GMAT - forget about it for this year (if eventually you need to reapply next year, you can reconsider)
- Contacting the school - Looks to me like you have enough good stuff to write it all in one big old "why you should let me in to your school" essay. The promotion and extra leadership are the most important thing. You can also write anything additional you like/learned about Sloan, and show how you are moving yet closer to your goals.

As for areas to address, I can't tell you that without getting to know your profile much much better and reading your essays and recs. I'm not a hard-sell type of dude, but you can check out our waitlist package here: https://admissionado.com/mba/services-pr ... t-support/

Good luck!
