Lack of Additional Optional Essay Schools

by GoBruins » Tue Aug 19, 2008 7:48 am
Hello,

I was wondering what should I do if they don't provide an opportunity for an optional essay. For Kellogg, and Haas, there isn't an opportunity for me to explain my low GPA. Kellogg provides a line "I wish the Admissions Committee had asked me…" but that takes out one of my essays where I can write about something else.

I am also not sure if "I wish the Admissions Committee had asked me…" is the same as an optional essay.

Dear GoBruins,

In checking on the Haas website, I do see the optional essay available for you to address your low GPA. Most schools offer either an optional essay or an additional information section (some offer both) for you to address things like low GPA or who writes your letters of recommendation. In the event the school does not offer either option, then it probably is not interested in having candidates submit anything outside of the required essays. Consequently, you will have to decide whether to work that into one of the other essays or wait to answer a question on your low GPA in your interview. As long as you have a solid GMAT and it has been at least 4 years since you've been in school, I think you will be ok.

Regards,
Lisa
