Please help--Need some advice on GMAT materials-Newbie

Hey guys

Im aiming for a 700+ on the GMAT.I have the Kaplan GMAT premier 2013 and am studying from it.I am yet to buy the OG.Will buy the OG soon.What I needed to know was whether the Kaplan GMAT premier 2013 is a good book for people aiming to get a 700+?Can this book get me a 45+raw score on the Quant side?If yes-please elaborate,if No,then how much can this book get me -to on the Quant side?What level questions feature in this book?The 500-600,600-700,or 700-800,or does it have a good mix?Also tell me the same about the verbal,I know this book aint that great with the Verbal aspect of the GMAT.

Looking forward to hearing from you'll.What should be the best strategy to get that 700+?Also please tell me the nooks that should help

Your question is oddly-phrased, and in the spirit of helping you out, I'll explain why. The Kaplan Premier book is a fine book - it's big, includes lots of practice material and tactics and (I believe) includes access to a bunch of practice CATs. Whether it helps you or not is more a matter of the work that YOU do and not about the book.

There are a variety of books/courses/teachers out there who can help you to hit your maximum personal score, BUT none of those resources is a "magic wand" - you're not suddenly going to hit a 700+ just because you read a book. I'd suggest that you practice with the material that you have for a bit, then take a practice CAT and gauge your progress. Plan to redo "old" questions and attempt them in different ways, define your "silly mistakes" and eliminate them and continue to build. The GMAT gives you a score that you EARN, so plan to work hard and keep earning. If your current resources aren't "working" for you, then you figure it out pretty quickly.

Have you taken any practice CATs recently? If so, then how did you score on them? That data will give you a sense of how well prepared you are for the GMAT and if there are any specific areas that you need to spend some extra time on.

Hi Dan,

I'd like to address a point about your question -- it's not the books themselves that will "get" you the score you want, but rather the WAY in which you study. It's *possible* for one student to get a great score simply using the OG, Kaplan materials, and GMATPrep, however for most people you'll probably need to dig a bit deeper.

As for materials, I can't say I usually recommend Kaplan materials as the best of the best. The OG is non-negotiable. I'd get the OG 13th ASAP and start using that. In terms of supplements, it depends on where your Verbal and Quant weaknesses are. However, I'd suggest looking at MGMAT Sentence Correction and MGMAT Number Properties. If you're really strong on Quant, you may also want to look at MGMAT Advanced Math. Kaplan will cover your bases, but that's about it, IMO.
