Struggling with translating word problems

Hey guys,

Im struggling with translating word problems into equations.. do you guys have any reccomendations on how to learn it? I've tried Manhatten GMAT, and it seems confusing...

Hi LiquidFireAK,

You're posting a rather "broad" question, so I'm forced to offer a broad answer. Translating sentences into equations requires a few things:

1) Know the math vocabulary
2) Know "where" the equal/inequality sign goes
3) Assign variables as appropriate
4) Learn the "quirky" phrases and what they translate into

Much of this comes down to practice. If a sentence seems wordy or overwhelming, try breaking the sentence down into pieces and write the pieces down in order.

Do you have any examples of translations that you found difficult?
