Devastated! Hit rock bottom :(

by cxw895 » Sat Oct 26, 2013 12:34 pm
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and hopefully I can get some advice as to how I can tackle the GMAT again.. I took the GMAT after studying for a couple months. It was horrible! I got a 480, 29 Q and 27 V. I think that is the lowest score ever! My goal is to get at least a 650 or above, is that even possible after such a hard hit? I feel like I did not have a good study guide or routine. Are there any good study guides out there that can help me? I took several practice tests which were in the middle 500s. I am really hoping that someone can guide me as to how I can start fresh. I knew I wasn't going to get my target score but I was hoping that mid 500s would do. I used the OG 12 and 13 and the kaplan books. Please someone help!! Thank you

Hi cxw895,

I'm happy to offer some advice, but I'd like to know a bit more about your situation first.

1) What specific resources did you use to study?
2) What were your specific practice CAT scores (include the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
3) How much time do you have to study before you retake the GMAT?
4) Where do you want to apply to school?

Your score goal involves a 170 point improvement, which is doable, but will probably take some time. Retaking the GMAT is NOT a bad thing though, so don't get too down on yourself; Business Schools don't care if you take the GMAT more than once.

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it

1) I used:
- Official Guide 12 and 13
- Kaplan Books
- Benchprep

2) For the GMAT took it was Quantitative 29 (21 percentile) and Verbal 27 (45 percentile)

3) I don't have a time limit anymore since I am going to miss the Spring admissions :( so I have around 7 months to prepare

4) I want to apply to University of Pittsburgh or Villanova University

I am just so discouraged right now. But this motivates me to start over and get a higher score. I just need someone to pin point me to where to start since my strategy obviously failed...

Again, thank you for your reply. I really really appreciate it! :)
