640 (Q42/V35); What I Need: 680 (Q45/V38)

I can really use your help, please. I scored 640 (Q42/V35) a couple days ago after prepping for several months. I am scheduled to take my second GMAT in a month and have a goal of 680 (Q45/V38). In particular, I need any/all suggestions on how to raise my Quant. I've done quite a bit of prep, but continue to struggle getting beyond basic math comprehension. the concepts are tight in my head; it's applying these with ease and fluidity, across PS and DS questions, across topics and question types, where i stumble and struggle. my gmat "knowledge" - test, timing, strategies, is definitely high.

i am going to put a master plan together this sunday to follow for the next month and i can really use your advice/opinions/thoughts, please. only stick with og? how many practice cats should i take (i am thinking one per week, so total of 4/5).

Hi basso25@,

A 640 is a solid score, so you shouldn't get too down on yourself. The interesting thing about the Scaled Scores (Q42, V35) is that they're both "good", but "on the cusp" of becoming "strong" scores. This means that you made silly mistakes in both of those sections of the Test.

For the next month, REVIEW is a must. Do your best to fix all of the silly mistakes that you've made on past CATs and in homework. Learn to spot WHEN and WHY you're making those silly mistakes and work to keep them from happening. 1 CAT/week is a good plan, but don't try to jam one in if you don't have the necessary time to take it.

rich: i really appreciate the response and i will follow your advice. my dream school is kellogg, so the 640/Q42 is simply not going to cut it i don't think.

anyone else have some advice/insights? would really appreciate it, thank you.
