A. Five hundred million different species of living creatures have appeared on Earth, nearly 99 percent of them vanishing.

B. Nearly 99 percent of five hundred million different species of living creatures that appeared on Earth have vanished.

C. Vanished are nearly 99 percent of the five hundred million different species of living creatures that appeared on Earth.
Awkward construction

D. Of (the) five hundred million different species of living creatures that have appeared on Earth, nearly 99 percent of them have vanished.
ambiguous pronoun reference. "Them" can refer to species or creatures.

E. Of the five hundred million different species of living creatures that have appeared on Earth, nearly 99 percent have vanished.
Between B & E, I feel B is more concise & clear. I feel in E, nearly 99 percent have vanished is not indicative of what vanished.

IMO E.. Even I was confused between B and E... :-) ... OA please

I like the use of "the" five hundred million... "the" makes the meaning clear..

IMO A, C, are awkward constructions

IN B, 99 percent of five hundred million different species of living creatures that appeared on Earth,
it is different from the original statement that states 500million.... have appeared on earth. B does not limit the number of species that has appeared to 500million.

Between D and E,

E has incomplete statement-nearly 99 percent of what?

D is correctly referring back to the species of living creatures using pronoun them.

IMO -E
I choose E because of "The". I am caught between B and E. Not able to point out but B seemed a bit awkward to me.

What's the OA?

IMO E. Along with "the" factor as discussed above, I found have vanished parallel with have appeared whcih is missing in B. So choose E

In some forum , quoting paper test source, OA given is B

GWD document says OA-E
Many of the great achievements of the world were accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working.
