Resume Advice for Applicant in Consulting

by scott_joan » Wed Aug 28, 2013 10:37 am
Hi,

I have worked in technology consulting for 4 years since I graduated with my Bachelor's and am seeking some advice regarding my MBA resume. I have four different projects to reflect and have a few questions:
- Should I reflect specific project dates of each assignment aside from already putting the timeline at the one consulting company? (e.g., September 2009 - present)
- When listing out the achievements on each project, is the expectation that they would be in chronological order by project, or should I put the most impressive accomplishments first?
- I am transitioning to a new project role in September. My first R1 application date is also around that time. I want to put the project role on my resume since I will be a team lead and it reflects growth and trust in me as a leader, but at the time of application I really won't have any achievements to date. How should I reflect this on my resume -- briefly mention, or go into detail about the responsibilities I will have?

Thanks!

Hi scott_joan,

Thanks for your post.

I'm happy to help with your resume questions:
-It is not necessary to list the dates for each of your projects. I do suggest breaking out your dates of employment for each job title/position you have held so the admissions officers can easily see the rate of career progression.
-I suggest placing the most emphasis on your most impressive accomplishments. Generally, listing them higher in a list will give them more emphasis.
-Yes, you should list your new role and responsibilities. The admissions officers will understand that you haven't yet been able to show impact from this role.

Good luck!

Best,
Heidi
