query on mock test

by manasgoswami1 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 3:49 am
Hi All,

I took my veritas prep mock yesterday after completing course books and my scores are as follows:

Your Score: 670

Percentile: 84

Integrated Reasoning Score: 3 - Percentile: 24

Quantitative Reasoning Score: 47 - Percentile: 73

Verbal Reasoning Score: 35 - Percentile: 74

Quantitative Reasoning Score: 47 - Percentile: 73

% correct # correct # incorrect Pace per question
Overall 54% 20 17 01m 57s
Data Sufficiency 53% 8 7 01m 08s
Problem Solving 55% 12 10 02m 29s
Verbal Reasoning Score: 35 - Percentile: 74

% correct # correct # incorrect Pace per question
Overall 61% 25 16 01m 27s
Critical Reasoning 62% 8 5 01m 23s
Reading Comprehension 73% 11 4 01m 35s
Sentence Correction 46% 6 7 01m 21s

I'm a bit confused and wanted to have thoughts on the following queries

Do mock exam helps?
How many mocks are ideal to take and at what frequency?
Do these exams help increase score and what kind of increase can be expected?
What is the time that i need to park for application of each b school....4-5 days are enough?

My gmat is scheduled for 10 september so would appreciate prompt replies.

Regards

Hi,

Took manhattan free mock (my second in all) again today and the scores are disappointing as below

Section Score Estimated Percentile Problem List
Argument essay - - Review
Integrated Reasoning 1.63 1 - 2 Review
Quant 44 63 % Review
Verbal 35 74 % Review
Total 650 78%

The problem is i'm unable to complete quant section and have to do arbitrary guesses.
My gmat is on 10 september and i have to cross the 700 barrier.

any suggestions how can i do it?

Hi manasgoswami1,

As a general rule, the bulk of your time should be spent doing practicing problems, review, etc. You should plan to take 1 CAT/week, but taking more than that is usually not helpful. A CAT is just a measuring device - it gives you an approximate score and points out your "weak" spots, but it DOESN'T make you a better Test Taker.

If you're stuck at a particular scoring range, then you have hit your "ceiling", meaning that you have gotten to this level doing things "your way." To raise your score, you're going to have to learn some new tactics and change the way you go about taking this test. You might consider investing in a Prep Course or a tutor.
