by vinay1983 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:27 am
On an average it rains once every 25 days in Miami. Half of these rainy days, the first flight between Miami and LA is cancelled. What percentage of the first flights between Miami and LA are cancelled?

OA:
2%
It rains once every 25 days.
Percentage of days it rains = 1/25*100% = 4%

The first flight is cancelled on half of these rainy days.
So, assuming the flights are NOT cancelled on days it doesn't rain,
percentage of days the first flight is cancelled = 1/2 * 4% =
2%
Cheers

Let's see what happens over the period of 100 days
If it rains once every 25 days, then we can expect 4 days of rain in a 100-day period.

Of those 4 rainy days, 1/2 of the first flight between Miami and LA are cancelled.
So, this means 2 cancellations.

2 cancellations out of 100 days =
2%
Cheers,
