HELP PLEASE!!!

Hi all,
I am currently preparing for the GMAT and plan to give it by the end of oct 2013!
I have started off with the quant section, as im not as good in math and since i have been out of touch with the basics. I have brushed upon my basics and have learned and made notes of all the new concepts i learned,
My main problem has always been with word problems!!!!
no matter how well my concepts are i just dont get to solve the word problems!!!!..
its frustrating me and getting me worried.
Please guide me as to how should i go about solving them, any strategies and tricks are welcomed.

Hi red217,

Most Quant questions are based on math rules, formulas and basic steps that you know how to do. The GMAT tests your ability to stay organized, deal with information that sometimes shows up "out of order" and pay attention to details. There are usually tactics that you can use and patterns that you can spot to make the questions easier and quicker to solve, but that takes practice.

If word problems are an issue, then you have to get comfortable with taking a question apart, piece by piece. Most Quant questions have 4-5 "steps" to them and the GMAT won't ask you to do all 5 steps at once. So, train yourself to do them 1 at a time. Expertise and pacing skills will improve with time, but you have to put in the practice.

You might also consider enrolling in a course (either live or self-study).

Yeah, practice and expert guidance are my suggestion. Maybe a course or tutoring would benefit you.
