I have one year work experience in banking and financial services domain in Cognizant. Planning to apply for MBA for next August so that my work ex would be around 2 years by then. My GRE score is 320.My engineering in EEE discipline. My GPA is low. But my extra curricular activities are so strong.I am a campaign leader for TEACH FOR INDIA.Organised atleast 8 national level events. Vice President of my college's cultural committee. I have done two internships and a mini project. What are my chances of getting into a top 50 business school? And especially Columbia business school and University of Minnesota ?
Sne99,
I do think it is too early for an MBA with your profile. I suggest focusing on building up your work experience (promotions, increased responsibilities / compensation, international exposure, etc.) in order to offset your lower GPA.
I also suggest studying for and taking the GMAT. While most schools do accept the GRE, a high GMAT score is an important advantage in the application process (particularly when coming from the very competitive Indian engineer profile).
One other point to consider is that work experience also plays an important role in the MBA recruiting process. Younger MBA students often struggle in the recruiting process (since competing with students who have significantly more experience), so in many ways applying too young does yourself a disservice.
Hope that helps!
Best,
Heidi
