hello, vokt... firstly I'm an Indian too.. So, English is my second language too.. yes, there are lots of materials available to prepare and it can be quite confusing at times.. I've been there and after reading lots of reviews I decided to buy few books and bought them finally..
Books that I use to study Quants:
1.Kaplan GMAT math foundations (I'm an engineer, but trust me that has got nothing to do with GMAT math section and it's indeed different from what we learnt in our schools or in our engineering mathematics paper) Build your foundations strong and straight..
2.Kaplan GMAT math work book- this will help you with basics once again and at the end of each chapter there are few questions to practice and the answers are well explained.
the above mentioned two books will help you build strong foundation and the other books that follows are going to help you apply those rules you've learned from those two books.
3.MANHATTAN GMAT books - all of them. (these books come with 6 CATs and after taking them you'll know where you stand.)
these books covers all GMAT topics and at the end of each chapter, there are questions to practice..
if you find it difficult to buy all these books in one go, I suggest you to buy them one by one.
4. Official guide- 13.
it has 900 questions from real GMAT including explanatory answers. Don't use this guide to practice randomly because it's precious... use it once you are done with MGMAT and Kaplan books.
these books are enough to practice quants.
Verbal book list:
1.Powerscore CR bible
2.Powerscore RC bible
NO NEED TO BUY another book for sentence correction since MGMAT sentence correction book should be with you if you buy MGMAT set of books. if not, then buy MGMAT sentence correction book.
if you need to learn verbal from basics then I suggest you to buy Kaplan verbal foundations and Kaplan verbal workbook.
there are other books such as kaplan premier, kaplan 800+ etc available in the market... if you really need to hit a 750 above mark, then you shall buy them too..
apart from that, Beat the gmat and gmat club are the places where you'll find numerous materials you can download from to practice. Maintain an error log and take a diagnostic test online which is available for free in mba.com.
hope this helps. good luck with your preparation!!
