when shall an applicant apply?

by sayanpaul » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:32 am
Suppose an university asks for a minimum of 3 yrs of work experience to apply for it. Is the 3 yrs. of experience mandatory at the time of joining the programme or at the time of applying to the programme?
For example, suppose i want to apply to a school whose application processes are on for 2015 and it's entry criteria is a min. of 3 yrs of experience. But as i have only 1 yr. of experience and by 2015 my work experience will be around 3.5 yrs, am i eligible to submit my application for that school now.
Guys, please help me as i am really confused.
Thanks

You should have three years of work experience at the time of applying.

I strongly recommend that you contact the school directly to ask this question. You may also be able to find the information in an FAQ section of the school's web site.

Prior to becoming an MBA Admissions Consultant, I was the Director of MBA Admissions. I measured the work experience "as of" July preceding the August admission date. Given this model, you can apply when you have 2 years of experience.

If you have only one year of experience at this time, I would not recommend applying until next year.

Until then, work on gaining additional managerial experience - either through professional channels or community leadership channels. Do all you can now to set yourself up for application success later!
I love to talk about MBA admissions with MBA applicants! If you find my posts helpful, please take a moment to click the "thank" icon at the top of the page and/or follow me!
