The full tank is always the same.
To find how big is the tank is MILES/CONSUMPTION, hence

462 miles / (x+ 6) miles per gallons = 336 miles / x miles per gallons

462x = 336 (x+6)
462x=336x + 2016
126x=2016

= 462/336 = 11/8

differene is 3.

in the question the diff. is 6,
