GMAT Score Submission

Hello All

I am planning to apply to USC's EMBA program for this fall. They don't require GMAT as part of EMBA application. I have already taken a GMAT in past but scored only 510

I am thinking that I should leave GMAT score section blank in application since it is elective. Needed suggestion from the group to make sure that it will not create any negative impact ?

Hi webman79,

In your case, I would recommend leaving the section blank. By not stating it, it leaves two options for the adcom. You either didn't take it, or it was low. However, leaving the subject with ambiguity will serve you better in this instance than to state it and remove the doubt.

This will be especially true if you can, in the whole of your application, paint a very strong quantitative picture. For example, if you can highlight work experiences or (I'm not sure how many years you have been out of undergraduate) a GPA that would support the assertions that you have strong analytics it will help paint the story without the help of a GMAT. So try to do that - if the adcom is left without a doubt that you can handle the EMBA program's curriculum, that will help them make an informed choice.

I recommend that you leave that question on the application blank.

I previously service as the Director of EMBA Admissions before becoming opening my own MBA admissions consulting firm. My response comes from this experience and perspective.

In an EMBA program, the academic profiles are widely varied. In contrast, for Full-Time MBA programs, the academic profiles are consistently strong.

EMBA programs value the professional experience and managerial experience more than the academic profiles.

However, your 510 GMAT causes me to ask the question: Do you have any concerns about your quantitative skills? Is this an area that you will need to improve prior to pursue an heavily quantitative degree program? This question is not related so specifically to admissions, but more out of concern for your academic success in the program.

@MBAAdmissionsCoach :: I gave GMAT with minimum prep few years ago. I do have a Computer Science background, so I am not very worries abt the quant skills

Leave it blank as it is not required, unless the wording of the prompt makes the omission an issue. This is likely not the case.
