Practice Tests

by hutch27 » Sat May 11, 2013 12:32 pm
so far i've taken the GMATPREP test#1 a few weeks ago, and this past week i took the kaplan and veritas ones. I'm just wondering how those companies tests compare to the actual gmat. I scored higher on both kaplan and veritas but it could be because I got more practice with timing and applying things. I just dont know what to expect because I'm doing better on these test prep comanies tests and didn't do as well on the offical software. I don't want to get too confident from some tests that aren't a good indicator of score. Any advice on what to make of all this would help. Thanks.

Third-party tests are great for practicing your test-taking skills, and for identifying weaknesses, but they're not 100% reliable for evaluating one's current skill level.

Yes, many test-prep companies have great practice tests, but those companies would never suggest that their tests are as accurate as the official practice tests.

I just don't know what to make of my scores. Should scores on these test prep companies test's be higher than the actual GMAT score? Or could it be an actual improvement?

If you check the posts in the I Just Beat the GMAT forum (e.g., https://www.beatthegmat.com/gmat-680-45- ... 32403.html), you'll find that students often list their practice test scores.

According to the link above, it seems that the Kaplan tests yield slightly higher scores than the official GMATPrep software does. Of course, one student is a pretty small sample. Check out some other posts in that forum and see what you think.

Aside: You're probably improving :-)

Cheers,
Brent
