Hi, thanks for taking the time to look over my quick profile. I'm just gearing up to apply R1 and before hiring an admissions consultant, wanted to get some general ideas about where my expectations should be.
Basic Info:
Male, white, 26 years old (27 when applying)
Undergrad from top 10 liberal arts school, history major, gpa: 3.51 (magna cum laude and distinction in major)
Captain of hockey team
GMAT - 710, planning to retake
Work Experience:
Currently a senior associate (typically post mba role) at $700mm PE firm in Colorado
Promoted from associate, have about 6 associates that work under me
Lot of operational/hands on experience, very entrepreneurial firm, so hopefully I can show some of the unique responsibilities I've taken on throughout the applications. Personally manage 2 portfolio companies currently.
Before PE I spent 1.5 years at a very well regarded investment bank in NYC, working in the restructuring and M&A groups
Extracurriculars are pretty light (most of my life is work). Have volunteered for years at homeless shelters in nyc and colorado. Taken on some leadership responsibilities there. Helped organize several fundraisers for a prominent foundation in Vail, CO. Currently also serve on advisory board of start-up founded by a friend (received almost $1m in funding over past 3 years)
Honestly, I plan to use the MBA to meet a business partner, and to raise a search fund to make an initial investment and buy a company after graduating (as a means to launch a career in operationally-focused investing). I've been in contact with a few people who have successfully raised search funds and that path really excites me. I don't yet know how to position that correctly in my applications.
I'm from the SF Bay Area, so would love to go to Berkeley. If I could get in there, I'd be happy. I was also planning to apply to HBS, GSB and Wharton, just on the off chance I might fall through the cracks.
Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
