Experience matters?

by Saidrasul » Fri Mar 09, 2007 8:50 am
Hi,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I am planning to apply to Wharton (or other top 10) and currently my profile looks like following:

GPA - actually UK university thus 1-class degree (appr. 3.5 GPA, if I am right)
GMAT - expected 670-680 (as per Kaplan results)
Experience - 2 years as accountant (full time) during my 4 year University studies; and 1 year in Ministry of Economics by now
BBA
Active community involvement

WHat would you suggest for me to become more competitive?

THANKS in advance

The biggest potential issue with your candidacy is the work experience. You will need to show that you were a leader in some way, that you innovated, that you really excelled and progressed. You should try to think of some creative way sto illustrate these things within the context of your experience.

Thank you for comments and advice, but still there is one more thing I would like to clarify, is that right to classify following as leadership/quality experience:

1. Organization of accounting club and acting like a university official representative in USAID project
2. Initiating better ways of carrying out investment appraisal in current workplace (currently I am working as specialist in investment appraisal)

And what else I can do in this direction? THANKS a LOT, again!!!

Yes, these are great examples of leadership. The examples can be small - what is important is to show how you took initiave, made things happen, influenced people to follow your kead - even in making small changes.
