Comparisons 'THAN'

by krisho007 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 6:47 am
Hi friends,

I am having big confusion with comparisons.

For example I am confused between, when to use 'than do those" and when to use "than those". I have got random usages from google.

than do those
1. Institutionalized elderly women have lower food intake than do those living more independently
2. College graduates say they have a little less weight to lose than do those with less education.
3. Elderly men and women with middle school or higher education have significantly lower prevalence of asthma than do those with less or no education.

than those
1. Singapore children get less sleep than those in Western countries.
2. Black immigrants from Africa arrive healthier than those from Europe
3. More people to have mobile phone than those without it.

Even after listing these sentences, i am not able to recognise the pattern.

can somebody help?
