Got 710. Thank you beatthegmat. Have a percentile question

Hi everyone,
I got a 710 last tuesday.AWA - 6.0. I'm pretty happy with it. I would just like to thank all the people here at the forum for helping me out.
I actually found this forum pretty late on in my preparation( with about 20 days to go) so i wish i had found it before. . In any case i pretty much recommend this forum now to anyone preparing for the gmat.I tell them to come here before they begin so that theyre really clear on how to prepare.
I have a question on the score itself. 710 is a 92 percentile. I remember that a friend of mine took the gmat about a year or so ago and got 710 and that was a 95 percentile. Is the average score moving up?

In any case i know 710 is a good score although in terms of scholarschips i think it's low. In any case im not planning to give it again unless i have to re-apply next year.I studied for about 2 months and i really think thats somewhere close to the optimal time for preparation

Rohan, congrats! 710 should be enough to apply for almost any of the top schools. Nice job!

Regarding the inflation of GMAT scores, yes, that's true.

In 1998, a score of 720 was in the 99th percentile. It certainly isn't 99th anymore.

The number of GMAT takers have increased by more than 20% on average in last 3 years from asia alone.. Also Year 2006 and 2007 have recorded higher average scores ..We dont know if that trend will continue ..But yes, with more and more people writing it..., scores will become competitive.. But scores carry much less weightage than fanaticism about them (Specially in Asia). They matter in case of schols for first sems and second sems..But to get into any good schools ..they carry less than 20% weightage.

The above is my opinion on the basis of my reading and talks with people ..Experts can add/correct ..!

710 is very good score, I am going to take the Gmat in September and I started to study for it, but i think that I don't know anything

About a month before my gmat i was getting about 650 or so. But then i focused on figuring out my silly mistakes in the tests. That helped. I also took a week off in between. I think i could have increased my score if i had put in a little more effort

Well if you're giving it in September, you have about two months to go. First thing that you want to do is to figure out where you stand now. The OG has different difficulty level problems.(you'll need the grid) What you can do is take each section and pick 10 easy, 10 medium, 10 difficult questions. Solve these timing yourself.(always time yourself while solving any problems).And check your accuracy afterwards.If you're getting the easy ones right and the difficult ones wrong then you're already doing well. If not you can figure out what you need to do to push up your accuracy. Hope this helps
