What are my first steps?

by fervorking » Fri Apr 05, 2013 6:22 am
I'm just beginning my research into MBA programs, and I plan on applying in 2-3 years. In my preliminary research, several schools stand out: Kellogg, Tuck, Fuqua, Haas, and Darden. The only thing that really concerns me at this point is my undergrad GPA of 2.98 from a top-10 public university. That was four years ago though, and I'm a completely different person now. What steps should I take to improve my changes at these top-tier programs? I've read about alternative transcripts, but does that improve my GPA or just show my ability? Any recommendations on where to take courses? Thanks for your help.

First, you will need to beat the heck out of the GMAT to show that yes, you really can be a great student. Then, excellent work experience is also very helpful. A good job, with quick advancement, lots of responsibilities, and of course, LEADERSHIP, anywhere you can get it - from your workplace first and foremost, but from community service, sports, hobbies, everywhere.
